2. Chemical Composition and Mechanical Properties (55# Steel)
GNEE RAIL manufactures 115RE, 119RE, 132RE, 136RE, and 141RE joint bars from heat-treated 55# high-quality carbon structural steel. With a carbon content of 0.52–0.60%, the material provides the strength and wear resistance required to meet ASTM A49 and AREMA requirements. Material test certificates (MTCs) are available for each production batch.
A. Chemical Composition of 55# Steel (%)
| Element | Content |
|---|---|
| Carbon (C) | 0.52–0.60 |
| Silicon (Si) | 0.17–0.37 |
| Manganese (Mn) | 0.50–0.80 |
| Phosphorus (P) | ≤0.035 |
| Sulfur (S) | ≤0.035 |
B. Mechanical Properties of Heat-Treated Joint Bars
| Property | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Tensile Strength | ≥690 MPa (100,000 psi) |
| Yield Strength | ≥483 MPa (70,000 psi) |
| Elongation (A5) | ≥12% |
| Reduction of Area | ≥25% |
| Cold Bend Test | 90° bend around a pin three times the bar thickness without surface cracking |
Heat treatment and dimensional inspections are performed throughout production to ensure compliance with ASTM A49 and applicable AREMA requirements.
Request Sample MTC & Test Reports →
Sample MTCs, tensile test results, chemical analysis reports, and batch quality records are available for GNEE RAIL 115RE, 119RE, 132RE, 136RE, and 141RE joint bars. Complete traceability documentation can be provided to support project approval and supplier qualification.
Manufacturing Process and Quality Control
GNEE RAIL controls the complete production process, from raw material inspection to heat treatment and machining, to ensure consistent dimensions and material properties. Billets are sourced from qualified steel mills and supplied with traceable mill certificates, with each heat number verified before production.
Rail joint bars are formed, heat treated, and machined according to ASTM A49 and AREMA requirements. Standard round and oval bolt holes are produced with dimensional inspections performed throughout production. Hole size tolerance is controlled within ±1/32 in. (0.8 mm), while center-to-center spacing is maintained within ±1/16 in. (1.6 mm) to ensure compatibility with standard track bolts.
Specialty and Custom Rail Joint Bars
In addition to standard 115RE, 119RE, 132RE, 136RE, and 141RE joint bars, GNEE RAIL supplies specialty rail joints for transition, signaling, and maintenance applications.
- Compromise Joint Bars – Designed to connect different rail sections, such as 115RE to 132RE or 132RE to 136RE, while maintaining proper running surface alignment and reducing wheel impact loads.
- Insulated Rail Joints – Used for track signal circuit isolation and available in bonded or composite configurations.
- Joggled Joint Bars – Intended for temporary reinforcement of cracked rails or defective weld areas during maintenance operations.

Custom compromise and joggled joint bars are available for 115RE, 119RE, 132RE, 136RE, and 141RE rail sections. Send us your rail section or drawings for a matching recommendation.
