The W14 rail clip is an elastic fastening component commonly used in the German Vossloh rail fastening system, primarily designed to secure the connection between rails and sleepers. Its core function is to provide sufficient clamping pressure and elastic restoring force, effectively resisting both lateral and longitudinal displacement during train operation, thereby maintaining track stability. Compared with traditional rigid fasteners, the W14 clip absorbs vibration and impact energy through its own elasticity, significantly improving the safety and durability of the rail system.
The W14 clip is typically made from high-strength spring steel, such as 60Si2CrA or 55SiCr. After quenching and tempering, the hardness is precisely controlled between HRC 42–47, ensuring an optimal balance between strength and toughness. Within this range, the clip maintains excellent fatigue life and elastic recovery under repeated loading conditions. Unlike materials that are too hard or too soft, this hardness range effectively prevents cracking or permanent deformation, ensuring long-term performance stability.

The plain finish is suitable for indoor or dry conditions, preserving the original metallic luster, while the painted coating provides enhanced protection against oxidation and corrosion in humid, coastal, or chemically aggressive environments, thereby extending the clip's service life. For more demanding projects, optional coatings such as electro-galvanizing, Dacromet, or epoxy spraying can be applied to further enhance corrosion resistance.
