What is the ISO standard for railways?
The primary ISO standard for railways is ISO 22163 (IRIS - International Railway Industry Standard), which defines quality management system requirements specifically for the rail sector, building on ISO 9001 and ensuring supply chain transparency. Are There ISO Standards Specifically for Rails and Track Infrastructure?
ISO does not directly replace product standards for rail profiles (such as EN 13674, UIC 860, AREMA, JIS, or GB). Instead, ISO standards focus more on system performance, interfaces, testing methods, and safety principles, while rail sections, dimensions, and steel grades are still governed by regional or industry standards.
However, ISO does publish standards related to track and infrastructure performance, for example:
