What is the meaning of rail pad in railway

A rail pad is an elastic component, typically made of rubber or polyurethane, installed between the rail and its supporting structure (like concrete or timber sleepers) to distribute loads, absorb impact and vibration, reduce noise, and prevent wear and fatigue. These pads improve track life, enhance passenger comfort by reducing vibrations, and are used in both conventional railways and crane runway systems.
