Cast-in And Weld-on Shoulder For Railway Fastening

Cast in Shoulder is made by casting from iron, and such shoulder is used by being pre-embedded in the concrete sleepers and works with the elastic clip to fasten the rail.

For materials, cast in shoulder includes 3 types: M.C.I. shoulder by malleable iron and S.G.C.I. shoulder by malleable iron and S.G.C.I. shoulder by spheroid graphite iron.

Other materials available: QT600-3,QT700-2,ZG25,ZG35,ZG45 and so on.

Standard: GB/T 1348-1988, NF EN 1563(1997), ISO1038, DIN 1693, JIS G5502 (2001), KS D 4302, GOST 7293(1985) or BS EN 1563(1997).

Weld-on shoulder is made by hot forging, and such shoulder is used for places where standard sleepers are unable to be easily used so the shoulders need to be welded on the flat steel base plates. In this way, it can fabricates the rail retaining units on both the steel ties and base plates, according to AREMA standard always.

Weld-on shoulders can be applied for clips with a range of 30lbs to 113lbs.

• The weld on shoulder fastening makes the fabrication of rail retaining units on both steel sleepers and steel base plates possible when the E style of elastic rail clips are used for the fasting of the rail.

• Even though the rail cast in shoulder are usually pressed in the concrete sleeper, it also can be welded on to longer length steel sleeper sections or bearers for use in the fabrication of switch and crossing layouts where vertical rail geometry is employed.

• The welding ability of rail shoulders in particular position which is dictated by layout design makes rail shoulders much useful and cost effective.

• Rail shoulder accessories used for specific rail sections should be adopted according to design criteria in order to achieve the correct elastic clip toe loading . And certain rail shoulders with milled weld area faces are provided to achieve a better weld integrity.

A rail shoulder's primary application is to anchor elastic rail clips in a rail fastening system, providing a base for the clip to grip the rail and a surface to transfer lateral and vertical loads to the sleeper or track slab. This ensures the rail remains stable by preventing movement caused by the lateral forces of passing trains. Shoulders can be cast-in to concrete sleepers or welded-on to steel sleepers and base plates.
