Chinese rail standard specifies three types of rails: light rail, heavy rail, and crane rail. GNEE RAIL has a large amount of stock of railroad tracks for sale. We also provide rails that conform to many other rail standards such as American standards, European standards, British standards, Indian standards, Australian standards, Japanese standards, South African standards, and so on.
Light rail weights less than or equal to 30kg per meter. Light rail is used for laying temporary transportation lines and light locomotive lines for forest areas, mining areas, factories, and construction sites.

How to choose the right specifications for a Light Rail?
Selecting the appropriate specifications for a light rail depends on several factors, including load requirements, operational environment, track length, installation method, and compatibility with existing infrastructure. The goal is to ensure that the rail can handle the intended axle loads, provide adequate durability, and remain cost-effective while simplifying installation and maintenance. Light rails are commonly used in industrial plants, mines, ports, and temporary construction tracks, where moderate loads and short transport distances are the norm. Choosing a rail that is too light may result in excessive wear or deformation, while a rail that is unnecessarily heavy can increase costs and complicate handling. Therefore, careful evaluation of operational conditions is essential before determining the weight, length, and material of the rail.

Several key factors should guide the selection process.
- First, the expected axle load and traffic intensity must be assessed, as they determine whether a 15KG, 18KG, or 22KG light rail is suitable. Rails with higher weight per meter offer greater durability under heavier loads and more frequent operations.
- Second, the track environment and installation requirements should be considered. For example, tracks in tunnels or confined spaces may require lighter rails for easier handling, while industrial yards with frequent rolling stock movement may benefit from slightly heavier rails for longer service life.
- Third, compatibility with fastening systems and sleepers is critical, as using rails that do not match existing GB fishplates, clips, or base plates can compromise stability and increase maintenance requirements.
- Finally, project-specific factors such as rail length, curve radius, temperature fluctuations, and environmental conditions (e.g., wet or corrosive environments) should also influence the choice of material grade and surface treatment.
Since 2008, GNEE RAIL has been supplying steel rails of different grades for more than 18 years, steel rails from GNEE is highly recommened in China and abroad.Wtih cutting edge equipment, GNEE produces high quality steel rails that meet with requirements of most countries. Standard rail, head hardened rail, heavy rail, light rail, crane rail and other types are all available here, as one of the China main rail supplier, GNEE RAIL has been working on supplying economical green railway products all over the world.
