What are the benefits of using a rail shoulder?

A rail shoulder is a pre-inserted item in the concrete sleepers, no matter for single stem type or twin stem type, used to fix the elastic rail clips, mainly e-clips, within the fastening system.

 

We are capable of producing two types of rail shoulders for rail clips: cast in shoulder and weld-on shoulder.

The function of rail shoulder

 

By using the rail shoulder, the stability of the railroad track is improved, and the service life of the track is extended. Its principal function lies in the following aspects. Supporting rails: providing stable support to prevent rails from displacement.

 

Rail shoulder is widely applied in railroad track construction and maintenance projects, especially the rail systems with high load and high speed (50kg, 85kg, 90/91LB, 115RE/136RE, UIC54 & UIC60 rail). By using the rail shoulder, the stability of the railroad track is improved, and the service life of the track is extended. Its principal function lies in the following aspects.

 

  • Supporting rails: providing stable support to prevent rails from displacement.

 

  • Transfer load: the weight applied on the railway track is evenly distributed to the ballast bed to prevent local excessive pressure.

 

  • Deformation resistance: reduce the stress caused by environmental factors such as temperature and humidity changes on the track, so as to prevent the track from deformation, fracture, and other problems.

Cast-in Rail Shoulder

 

The casting shoulders as the embedded part of the rail way fastening system are pressed in concrete sleeper and work together with the E clip to fasten the rail. The cast in shoulder is made by casting from iron, such as, GB/T 1348-1988, NF EN 1563(1997), ISO1038, DIN 1693, JIS G5502 (2001), KS D 4302, GOST 7293(1985) or BS EN 1563(1997).

Weld-on Rail Shoulder

 

The weld-on shoulder is used at the typical position of rail where the rail shoulder is weld on flat steel plate rather than the standard tie plate. The weld-on shoulder production method is hot forging, it is fabricated according to AREA standard. The steel material type for weld-on shoulders production can be low or medium carbon steel, which varies with your specific requirements.
