What is the difference between QU100 and QU120
Sep 29, 2025
QU100 and QU120 are both heavy-duty crane rail models in the GB standard. However, they have significant differences in cross-sectional dimensions, weight per meter, and typical application scenarios.
First are the geometric dimensions and weight. QU100 has a nominal height of approximately 150 mm, a head width of approximately 100 mm, and a base width of approximately 150 mm. Its theoretical weight is about 88.9 kg/m. In contrast, QU120 has a height of approximately 170 mm, a head width of approximately 120 mm, and a base width of approximately 170 mm. Its weight per meter can reach 118 kg/m. It is evident that QU120 has significantly larger cross-sections in the head, web, and base. This results in greater overall stiffness and load-bearing capacity.
| Rail Type | SIZE(mm) | theoretical weight | |||||||||
| height | bottom width | head width | waist depth | ||||||||
| Crane rail | QU70 | 120 | 120 | 70 | 28 | 52.8 | |||||
| QU80 | 130 | 130 | 80 | 32 | 63.69 | ||||||
| QU100 | 150 | 150 | 100 | 38 | 88.96 | ||||||
| QU120 | 170 | 170 | 120 | 44 | 118.1 | ||||||

Next are the load-bearing capacity and suitable environments. QU100 is suitable for heavy-duty but relatively moderate crane applications. These include large plant overhead cranes and container yard gantry cranes. It meets the demands of high-frequency operation with considerable wheel pressure. QU120, however, is designed specifically for ultra-heavy-duty or extreme environments. Examples include ultra-large port quay cranes and ladle car tracks in metallurgical plants. It is needed for conditions requiring higher wheel pressure, impact resistance, and fatigue cycles.

Material-wise, both often use the same high-strength steel grades, such as U71Mn. Surface quenching or anti-corrosion treatment can be applied based on requirements. However, due to its larger cross-section, QU120 demands higher equipment and process standards for heat treatment and installation. This leads to relatively higher construction costs.
| Steel Grade | C(%) | Si | Mn | Cr | V | P | S | Tensile Strength (Rm/MPa) |
| U71Mn | 0.65~0.76 | 0.15~0.58 | 0.70~1.40 | – | – | ≤0.035 | ≤0.030 | ≥880 |
