Why use rail shoulder?
Rail shoulders are used to provide stable, secure support for rails and to transfer and distribute the weight from the rails to the ballast bed. They are a critical component in railway fastening systems, preventing lateral movement, and are installed in concrete sleepers to hold rail clips that secure the rails.

- Support and Stability: They act as a crucial part of the fastening system by preventing the rails from displacing or moving sideways, which is essential for safety and preventing derailments.
- Load Distribution: They help distribute the weight and impact forces from the train's wheels across the ballast bed, reducing stress on the sleepers and other components.
- Fastening: They are specifically designed to work with rail clips, which are inserted into or against the shoulder to hold the rail firmly in place on the baseplate.

- Protection: They protect the clips from being stolen and help to prevent wear and tear on the rail and sleeper, leading to less maintenance and longer component life.
- Environmental Resistance: They are made of durable materials like cast iron to resist deformation caused by environmental factors like temperature and humidity changes.

There are two Common types of rail shoulders available from GNEE Cast-in Shoulder and Weld-on Shoulder, both of which are used for the fixing of elastic rail clips. One is Single Stem Iron Shoulder used in pre-stressed concrete ties and the other is Twin Stem Iron Shoulder used in Bi-Block or Twin Block concrete ties.
